Welcome

Welcome to George Funeral Home & Cremation Center

Welcome to this window looking into George Funeral Home & Cremation Center as we celebrate ninety-two years of serving the residents of Aiken. George is the longest operating funeral home in Aiken County and holds South Carolina Funeral Home license #004.

Ray & Alicia Visotski are proud to introduce you to the funeral home. The building, an historic "Winter Colony" mansion and was built in 1863. During WW II, the house was a USO Hotel and was host to actor and Army Air Corps pilot, Jimmy Stewart. A watercolor of one of the fireplaces, dated January 3, 1943, hangs in the lobby...painted by Stewart. Shortly after the war, in 1949, the George family moved their funeral home to this location.

The facility is comfortably decorated with many antique pieces and as you walk in the front door, you are greeted by the aroma of freshly baked cookies and coffee. A courteous staff member is always close at hand to welcome you to George's and to provide a tour and history.

The building may be antique, but we are the benchmark when it comes to serving our client families. George was the first funeral home in the area to have a website, provide video tributes and include online obituaries as a basic service. We own the longest operating crematory in the county and we are the only funeral home in the area with ongoing, community outreach/education programs. Click through to our "events" page and "What people are saying about us" page as we update both on a regular basis. As you visit our site, you will get the feeling that we are more about helping people than we are about being a business. That's the feeling we want you to have.
