Alexander Tyrteos

“It is with great sadness we announce the death of Alex Tyrteos, our beloved father and previous husband, after a short and hard fight overcoming cancer.

Alexander "Alex" Tyrteos, age 75, of Aiken, SC passed away on Saturday, March 9th, 2024, at Aiken Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.

Mr. Tyrteos was born in Cairo, Egypt on Thursday, July 1st, 1948, to the late John and Helena Carrese Tyrteos.

Alexander was a successful Realtor-Builder and had a passion for polo, poetry, gardening, and landscaping. He had a love for traveling and had visited every continent except for Australia and the Antarctic. He was a parishioner at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church.

He is survived by his daughters, Sophia Tyrteos of Brooklyn, NY and Lucy Tyrteos of Aiken, SC, his son Alexander John "Sacha" Tyrteos Jr. of Charleston, SC; his previous spouse Marie-Louise Tyrteos of Charleston, SC and a brother George Tyrteos of Durban, South Africa.

A Funeral Mass honoring his life will be held at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, 203 Park Ave SE Aiken, SC 29801 on Wednesday, March 13th, 2024, at 2:00pm with Rev. Orlando Serrano Ardila as celebrant.

Final rites and commendations will be held following the mass in Calvary Cemetery, 1255 University Blvd., Aiken, SC 29801.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, from 5:00pm until 6:15pm at The Historic George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 211 Park Ave SW, Aiken, SC 29801 (803) 649-6234. A prayer service will be held at 6:15pm

Memorial in Mr. Tyrteos' memory may be made to St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, 203 Park Ave SE, Aiken, SC 29801.
