Alsie Poole Hughes

Funeral services for Mrs. Alsie P. Hughes will take place on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at 10:30am at the chapel of George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 211 Park Ave. SW Aiken with Rev. Cathy Cole officiating, Burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10am until the time of the service. Memorial donations may be directed to the Building Fund at Aiken's First Baptist Church.

Mrs. Hughes, 81, of Aiken, died Sunday, November 20, 2011 at Unihealth, PAC-Aiken.

A daughter of the late Roy C. Poole, Sr. and Leila Wood Poole, she was born in Woodruff, SC where she lived until moving to Aiken in 1952.

She was a long time member of Aiken's First Baptist Church and was a member of the Faith & Comfort Sunday school class. Alsie had been recognized for thirty-five years of service as a "Pink Lady" with the Aiken Regional Medical Centers Hospital Auxiliary.

In addition to her parents, she had been pre deceased by her husband William P. Hughes, Sr. who died in 2005.

She is survived by a son, William P. Deborah Hughes, Jr., Aiken and a daughter, Rebecca "Diane" Thompson, Aiken. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
