Arzella Newsome Henson

Funeral services for Arzella Newsome Henson, 85, of Aiken, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, August 24, 2012 at the Chapel of GEORGE FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION CENTER, 211 Park Avenue, SW, Aiken, SC 29801. Officiating will be Rev. Dr. Eddie Leopard, burial will follow in Southlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Millbrook Baptist Church, 223 South Aiken Blvd., SE, Aiken, SC 29803 or the Alzheimer's Association, SC Chapter, 3223 Sunset Blvd., Suite 100, W. Columbia, SC 29169.

Mrs. Henson, widow of Harold W. Henson, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at Doctors Hospital of Augusta after a long battle with Dementia. Born in Floyd County, KY, she was a daughter of the late Casey & Dakota Moore Newsome. Arzella was a retired cosmetologist in Aiken and also worked for Belk of Columbia for many years before moving to Aiken in1963. Arzella made many friends with her customers and enjoyed shopping with them and going to the Christian Women's Club before her husband suffered with leukemia and then became the primary caretaker for him until his death in 1998. Mrs. Henson was a great seamstress where she sewed for her daughter and granddaughter. She enjoyed working with flowers in her yard and loved spending her time with her beloved granddaughter, Briana. She was extremely proud of what Briana became as an adult. Mrs. Henson was a member of Millbrook Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a sister, Genevieve Roberson and a brother, Pete Newsome.

Surviving are her daughter, Luanna H. Dygas Jerry, of Aiken; a sister, Sylvia N. Corey of London, Kentucky; a brother, Walker "Lee" Newsome of Richmond, KY; a granddaughter, Briana Childers All, of Summerville; and several nieces and nephews.
