Carolyn Laverne Matthews

Carolyn LaVerne Matthews, 61, of Landsdowne PA, entered into eternal rest on May 18, 2020, at Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital in Darby PA.

Carolyn was born October 6, 1958 in Aiken SC to the late Cora Lee and Willie James Matthews. She received her education from Martha Schofield High class of 1976. Then went on to further her education earning a degree in Medical Assistant, Associate in Applied Science and Medical Coding Billing, Associate in Applied Science. She was employed by University of Pennsylvania Presbyterian Medical Center where she retired in 2019 and resuming part time employment at Walgreen.

Carolyn embraced life to the fullest and was the life of any party. She also loved entertaining family and friends, gardening, and cooking. She was especially fawned of her two grandchildren whom she loved dearly.

She is preceded in death by her mother and father, the late, Cora Lee and Willie James Matthews and a brother Willie Lee Matthews.

She leaves to cherish two daughters: Lawana (Larry) Williams of Graniteville SC and LaTonya Johnson of Atlanta GA; Two brothers: Rev. Charles Matthews and Karl (Jackie) Matthews, both of Aiken SC; Four grandchildren; Jakera Ealey, Adajja, Aubrie and Aiden Williams, all of Graniteville SC; and a very Special Friend Ernest Bannister of Philly PA; and a host of Aunts, Uncles, Nieces and Nephews.

She also shared a special friendship from childhood with Debra Moore and Linda Childs.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, May 23, 2020 at 1PM at the Historic George Funeral Home. Social distancing will be encouraged.
