Clayson James White

A memorial service for Mr. Clayson James White will be held on Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at 11am at St. John's United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. George K. Howle officiating. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends tonight Tuesday from 6-8pm at George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 211 Park Ave, SW, Aiken. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. John's United Methodist Church, 104 Newberry St, NW, Aiken, SC, 29801.

Mr. White, 91, of Aiken, died Sunday, November 21, 2010 at Aiken Regional Medical Centers.

Born in Pulaski, TN, he was the son of the late Joseph Pitman White and Robbie Jo Allen White. He moved to Aiken in 1951 from Oak Ridge, TN with the Atomic Energy Commission to help build the Savannah River Site. He attended Falls Business College and the University of Tennessee. He was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church for fifty nine years and Masonic Lodge #156 A.F.M. He served his country in the Army during World War II as a Master Sergeant in the Pacific Theatre. Clayson retired after twenty eight years of service from the Atomic Energy Commission Records Department. He was a Past President of the Toastmasters Club. After retiring he took care of maintenance at the church. When the children where growing up he was active in the Dixie Youth Baseball where he helped run the concession stand and was an umpire. Clayson was a devoted husband and father. He loved to play golf, help other people, and spend time with his family.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Clarence Meadow White, Joseph Pitman White, Jr., Samuel Paul White, sister, Jewel Kennedy. He is survived by his wife of sixty six years, Thelma Reeves Cunningham White, daughter, Cathy Jim Gaylord, N. Augusta; son, Jim Joann White, Acworth, GA; brother, Kenneth White, Nashville, TN; sisters, Mary Jo McGee, Columbia, TN; Opal Connelly, Miami, FL; grandchildren, Stanley "Chip" Kara Gaylord, Scott Meredith Gaylord, Stephen Gaylord, James White, Jenna White, Julianne White, and great grandchild, Caroline Gaylord.
