Clester Terrell Coleman

Funeral Services for Mr. C. T. Coleman, Sr. will be at 1pm on Friday, September 8, 2006 at George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 211 Park Avenue, SW, Aiken with Rev. Jim Kirk officiating.. Interment will be private. Visitation will be today from 11am until the time of service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to Memorial Baptist Church, 3100 Vaucluse Rd, Aiken, SC 29801 or the American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, SC, 29210-1790.

Mr. Coleman of Aiken, died September 6, 2006 at Aiken Regional Medical Center.

Born in Glascock County, GA, to the late Walter and Dorsey Coleman, he had lived in Aiken since 1952 when he and his first wife Alice Broxton Coleman moved their family to Aiken to open Phillips Shoe Store and then Coleman Shoes. Over the years Mr. Coleman taught the young children in Aiken County how to tie their shoes by making bunny ears with shoe laces and later those children would bring their children to the shoe store for the ?lesson?. Mr. Coleman was a World War II veteran serving in the U. S. Army and was a retired merchant. He was a past member of the Aiken Chamber of Commerce, the Aiken Rotary Club and Houndslake Country Club and a member of Memorial Baptist Church. Mr. Coleman, who was affectionately known as PaPa, had just celebrated his 90th birthday on July 22 with all of his family in attendance.

Mr. Coleman was predeceased by first wife Alice B. Coleman and second wife Myrtle Y. Coleman, son, C. T. Buddy Coleman, Jr., son-in-law, Dr. Cecil L. Miller, great-grandson, Coleman T. Miller, and brother, Hugh D. Coleman. Mr. Coleman is survived by his daughter Mae Alice Coleman Miller of Gainesville, GA, and daughter-in-law Judith Courtney Coleman of Aiken; two grandsons, Cecil Terrell Teresa Miller of Gainesville, GA, Christopher Terrell Trenia Coleman of Alexandria, VA; five granddaughters, Allison Miller of Buford, GA, Alicia Miller Mark Erlich of NY, Andrea Miller Mark Farmer of Gainesville, GA, Courtney Coleman Carl Kastner of Lexington, SC, Elaine Coleman Rhett Johnson of Aiken; four great-grandsons, David Mardis, Carey Miller, Charlie Miller and Trey Johnson; five great-granddaughters, Janie Mardis, Shelley Farmer, Ali Farmer, Brianna Coleman and Coleman Kastner. step-daughters Gloria Starnes Vic Kotowski and Donna Starnes Charles Smith of Aiken; three step-granddaughters Allison Kotowski, Clairissa Smith Jacob Wells and Lindsay Smith Charlie Capps; two step-great granddaughters, Sydney Clair Wells and Whitney Wells.
