Donald Douglas Mcdonnell

Donald Douglas McDonnell, 80, passed away peacefully on Saturday Morning, November 12, 2022 following an extended illness.

Mr. McDonnell was born on May 24, 1942 in New Rochelle, NY a son of the late Alexander and Anne (Heffernan) McDonnell. Mr. McDonnell earned his undergraduate degree from Columbia University and his master’s degree from the University of Chicago. He was a retired commodities broker on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. Mr. McDonnell was a parishioner at St. Mary Help of Christians Church. In his earlier years, he was an avid rower. He was a member of MENSA International, loved classical music and was fluent in Mandarin Chinese.

Mr. McDonnell is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia McDonnell & Cedric Alaux of Avignon, France; a grandson, Adrian Alaux of Avignon, France and a granddaughter, Hanae Alaux of Avignon, France; a sister and brother-in law, Claire C. & Gerald Carroll of Aiken; a brother, Thomas McDonnell of Arlington Heights, IL.; a brother and sister-in-law, Michael & Karen McDonnell of Tequesta, FL; 21 nieces and nephews and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mr. McDonnell was pre-deceased by his brother, John McDonnell; his brother and sister-in-law, Alexander & Joan McDonnell and his sister-in-law, Mary McDonnell.

A Catholic Funeral Service will be celebrated on Saturday, November 19, 2022 at 1:00p.m. with Father Francisco Onate-Vargas as officiant at St. Mary Help of Christians Church Old Sanctuary, 203 Park Ave SE, Aiken, SC 29801.

Final prayers and commendation will follow in Calvary Cemetery, 1255 University Lane, Aiken, SC 29801.

The family will receive friends on Saturday morning from 11:30am until 12:30pm at the Historic George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 211 Park Ave SW, Aiken, SC 29801 (803) 649.6234.
