Edwina S Dyches

BEECH ISLAND, SC – Edwina S. Dyches, 80, widow of James Byrnes “Jimmy” Dyches, Sr, passed away December 15, 2021 surrounded by her family.

Born November 5, 1941 in Dunbarton, SC, she was the daughter of the late Edwin Jacob Schumpert and Bessie Irene Hall Schumpert.

She was a graduate of Williston Elko High School, where she played on the ladies’ basketball team. She was a great player and even scored 42 points in one game! She went on to marry Jimmy and they had four beautiful children. She became crippled at the young age of 28 but thru prayer and determination, she overcame the obstacles and miraculously walked again!

While her children were growing up, she and her husband had horses. They loved to spend time together riding and attending rodeos. She even loved to watch Old Westerns! She was also active with her husband as a member of the Aiken Rescue Squad.

She was an active member at Windsor Baptist Church where she met so many life -long friends. One of her favorite things to do in her spare time was to play cards and games with her neighbors. They got together and often enjoyed “coffee and Yahtzee” .

Edwina was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Judith Schumpert; and her husband of 42 years.

She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Lisa R. Dyches, Rodney Adam Dyches, Katina Dyches Hastings (Mike) and James Byrnes Dyches, Jr.; her grandchildren, Marsha, Joey, Dwayne, Emily, John, April and James, III; her 17 great-grandchildren; her 8 great-great grandchildren; and her brothers, Edwin Schumpert, Jr and Donald Jessie Schumpert (Mona).

The family will receive friends Saturday, December 18, 2021 from 1-3PM with the service beginning at 3PM in the chapel of The Historic George Funeral Home, 211 Park Ave SW, Aiken, SC 29801 with Pastor Lynn Kirkland officiating. Interment to follow at Aiken Memorial Gardens.

Serving as Pallbearers are Mike Hastings, David Hastings, Joey Clark, Dwayne Clark, James Dyches, III, Devonte Gaiters, and Justin Rutland.

Memorial Contributions may be made in Mrs. Edwina’s memory to MSA Hospice, 186 Fabian Drive, Aiken, SC 29803.
