It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Elster Charles, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Elster peacefully departed this life on Monday, December 2, 2024, at the age of 88, at the Silver Bluff Senior Living Facility in Aiken following an illness.
Born on August 11, 1936, in Pikeville, Kentucky, Mr. Charles was the son of the late Miles & Mary Charles. As a dedicated worker in the shipbuilding industry, Elster contributed significantly to the safety and innovation of maritime vessels. Moreover, his sense of duty extended beyond the workplace, as he proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army.
He is survived by his children, Richard (Ashley) Charles of North Augusta and Debrah (John) Buchanan of Norway. He was a proud grandfather to Kennedy Charles, Truman Charles, and Reagan Charles, who brought immense joy into his life. He is also survived by his loving sister, Pauline Mitchum.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Miles and Mary Charles, and his beloved spouse, Jo Wanda Charles, with whom he shared many wonderful years.
Mr. Charles will be remembered for his unwavering strength, kindness, and the love he had for his family. Friends and family recount his unforgettable stories and the wisdom he imparted upon those around him.
Mr. Charles requested that no services be held.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to The Children's Place, 310 Barnwell Ave NE, Aiken, SC 29801, which supports the welfare and development of children in need.
