Frances Hyslop Brown

A Funeral Mass for Miriam Frances Hyslop Brown will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at 10am at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church. Internment will follow in Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 11, 2011 from 6-8pm at GEORGE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTER, 211 Park Ave, SW, Aiken, SC with wake service at 7pm. Memorial contributions are requested in lieu of flowers and may be directed to the Building Fund at St. Mary Help of Christians Church, PO Box 438, Aiken, SC 29802.

Mrs. Brown of Aiken entered into her eternal rest on January 6, 2011. She was the wife of the late William V. "Bill" Brown.

Mrs. Brown was a native of Beards Fork, West Virginia, born March 16, 1934. She graduated from Montgomery High School in Montgomery, West Virginia in 1951. She attended St. Mary's School of Nursing in Huntington, West Virginia from 1951 to 1954. After graduating she worked at Thomas Memorial Hospital in South Charleston, West Virginia from 1954 to 1955 as a labor and delivery nurse and then from 1955 to 1976 at the Aiken County Hospital in Aiken, SC. She continued her nursing career at Aiken Community Hospital now Aiken Regional Medical Center as a Night House Supervisor until her retirement in 2002. She was a cheerleading coach at North Aiken Elementary School and a Brownie and Girl Scout leader for her daughters' troops also at North Aiken Elementary. She was a Perpetual Adorer at St. Mary Help of Christians Church.

In addition to her husband she was predeceased by her parents, Alexander and Mary Cecelia Dean Hyslop, two sisters, Patsy and Rosemary Hyslop. a brother Scotty Hyslop, and a grandson, Douglas Ward. She is survived by her daughters, Sue Brown Trish Francis of Greensboro, NC, Anne Bill Bond of Florence, SC, Mary Roger Ward of Aiken, and Jane Jeff Wilson also of Aiken and her sons, Kenny Audrey Brown of Greer, SC, David Brown of Asheville, NC, and Mike Tari Brown of St. Louis, MO. She is also survived by a brother, James Alan Hyslop Corky of Odenton, MD, and a sister, Debbie Dixon of Aiken, a sister-in-law, Peggy Hyslop of Prescott Valley, AZ, and ten grandchildren.

The family would like to thank all the people who visited Frances at Harbor Chase and the loving staff that took such good care of her there, especially Sharon.
