Frances Whitney Manter

AIKEN: Frances Whitney Manter, 97, of Aiken, SC, passed away October 11,

2021, at Hospice Home of Lexington.

Born March 31, 1924, in Pawtucket, RI, she was the daughter of the late Edith Sisson and Howard Whitney.

Frances graduated from Lincoln School of Providence, RI in 1942 before going on to attend Wheaton College of Massachusetts. Once her children were older, she began her career working for the Welfare Department of Aiken before transferring to the Child Welfare Department for the State of South Carolina, where she stayed for 25 years.

After retirement, she enjoyed playing golf, gardening, and traveling the world with her late husband and sister. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Aiken. She regularly played bridge with the bridge club within her church.

Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Frank I. Manter, Jr.; her

Sons, Bruce W. Manter and Douglas K. Manter; and her sister Eleanor

Ogden.

She will be lovingly remembered by her sons, Richard Manter, Aiken, SC and Stuart Manter, Charleston, SC; Granddaughter, Megan Manter, Mount Pleasant, SC; Grandson, Matthew Manter, Charleston, SC; Great-Granddaughter Abigail Meadows, Mount Pleasant, SC; and two nieces, Deborah Zakowski, Seekonk, RI, and Robin Horwath, Attleboro, MA.

A Memorial Service will be held Friday October 22, 2021 at 11:00AM at Aiken’s First Baptist Church, 120 Chesterfield St, N, Aiken, SC. A private interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
