Frances Jane Sargent

WEST COLUMBIA, SC – Mrs. Frances Sargent, age 93, formerly of New Ellenton, SC, entered into rest Thursday, August 23, 2018.

Mrs. Sargent was born June 22, 1925 in Anderson, SC to the late Adger and Dessie Gurley. She had made New Ellenton, SC her home since 1952 until moving to be closer to her children. Mrs. Sargent was a member of Foreman Memorial Baptist Church where she was a member of the Women’s Missionary Union, and served in many capacities throughout the years. She dearly loved the Lord and her church family. She especially loved cooking weekly meals for the church.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Sargent was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Max Sargent; a daughter, Norma Jean Shealy; and a great-great-granddaughter, Ava Capps.

Mrs. Sargent is survived by a daughter, Kathy Barker (J.B.), Columbia, SC; four grandchildren, Marie Bond, Brent Barker, Marna Knight (George), and Mandy Bruce (Jason); eight great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends beginning at 12:30 PM Monday, August 27, 2018 at Foreman Memorial Baptist Church with a funeral service to follow at 1:30 PM at the church. The Rev. William Eaves will officiate. Interment will follow in Southlawn Cemetery.
