G. Lennard Gold

A Funeral Mass for Dr. G. Lennard Gold, MD will be celebrated on Saturday, October 21, 2006 at 10am at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, Aiken. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Aiken. Visitation will be on Friday, October 20, 2006, from 7-9pm at George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 211 Park Ave. SW Aiken, SC. Dr. Gold, 78, of Aiken, SC died Thursday, October 12, 2006 at his residence after a long illness.

The only child of the late Martin and Babette Levi Gold, he was born in New York, NY. He graduated from Purdue University and then attended UVA School of Medicine, where he graduated first in his class. He completed his internship at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital; Boston, MA where he also completed part of his residency, Dr. Gold also served his residency at the National Institutes of Health and the Harvard Medical School, Biophysics Laboratory.

Dr. Gold practiced at the National Cancer Institute, NIH in the Chemotherapy Section. He also had served as the Assistant Director, Tumor Service, Georgetown Medical Division, D.C.G.H. and he served as Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine, Georgetown University School of Medicine. During his career, he had been affiliated with: Washington Hospital Center, Suburban Hospital, Georgetown University Hospital and Holy Cross Hospital. He was respected for his expertise as an outstanding medical oncologist, but he was renowned for being a caring man and patient advocate.

Before moving to Aiken in 2002, he had previously lived in Montgomery County, MD, Hilton Head Island, SC and Ocean View, DE.

In addition to his parents, he was pre-deceased by a granddaughter, Camryn Lain.

Dr. Gold is survived by his wife of thirty years, Dorothy DeBow Gold, Aiken, SC, four step-children; Lisa & Scott Caudle, Christopher & Carol Lewis, Susan & Robert Lain and Donald & Nancy Lewis and three children; Linda Gold, Edward Gold & Steven Gold,. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren.
