Gary Michael Iversen

AIKEN, SC - Gary Michael Iversen, 69, passed away Wednesday January 8, 2014. He was born in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, New York. He graduated Division High School in Levittown, Long Island, NY, and attended Columbia University in New York City on a football scholarship. Gary graduated from City College, NY, with a B.S in Geology/Geochemistry and received a Master of Science degree in Geochemistry and Mineralogy from the Pennsylvania State University in State College, PA. He worked as a senior geochemist and project manager for the Hanna Mining Company, Salt Lake City, UT. In 1981 Gary accepted a position as SE Regional Exploration Geologist/Geochemist with GCO Minerals Co., a subsidiary of the International Paper Co. Since 2004, he worked as a consultant, most recently for Gannett Fleming, Inc., FL. He was a Licensed Geologist in SC and GA and a founding and active member in the CSRA Geological Society. A long time Aiken resident, he enjoyed the land, the outdoors, and his dogs and horses at the family farm in Aiken Co.

He is survived by his wife, Christine Langton, Aiken, SC, and his brothers, Jay Patrick Ole Gurolf Iversen, Rosendale, NY, and Eric Peter Iversen, Red Hook NY. He was the son of Ole Gurolf Iversen, Norway, and Philomena Veronica Johnson Iversen, Brooklyn, NY.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date. His family asks that you celebrate his life in a personal moment of reflection. Memorial contributions may be made to your favorite animal rescue group.
