James Sylvester Foster, a beloved father, grandfather, and dedicated serviceman, passed away peacefully at his residence in Graniteville, SC, on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at the age of 86. Born on Sunday, October 30, 1938, in Montgomery, Alabama, Jim lived a life enriched by his love for family and service to his country. Jim proudly served in the United States National Guard as an Army helicopter mechanic and crew chief. His dedication and expertise in the National Guard exemplified his commitment to duty, and he cherished the camaraderie of his service. Outside of his professional life, Jim was an avid outdoorsman, finding joy in fishing, camping, and spending quality time with his family. He was predeceased by his devoted wife of 56 years, Doris Jean Foster, who was the love of his life. Jim is also reunited with his parents, Jimmie Sylvester Foster and Ethel Foster, his cherished siblings, Caroline Matchet and Lorene Foster, and his son and daughter-in-law, Scotty L. and Dana Foster. Jim leaves behind a legacy of love and family. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, James D. and Melody Foster of North Augusta; his beloved grandchildren, Nicole L. Foster, Shelby Carl, Samantha Foster, Zachary (April) Foster, Jason (Holly) Linton, and Josh Linton; his precious great-grandchildren, Maliyah Goyen, Quincy Carter, Aleko Carl, Rose Carl, and Dakota Linton; and his adored great-great-granddaughter, Alaya Hammond. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Cotton Matech, and several nieces and nephews, who will continue to cherish his memory. A funeral service will be held at The Historic George Funeral Home Downtown Chapel on Saturday, May 17, 2025, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm. Interment will follow in The Historic Graniteville Cemetery.
