James "Jim” Mortimer Morrison, 91, of Aiken, SC went to the Lord on December 29, 2024.
Jim was born April 5, 1933, in Bloomfield, New Jersey, to George M. Morrison and Louise T. Morrison. He was married to Olivia Macon Morrison for 53 years and is survived by him.
Jim had spent his childhood in New York where he graduated high school and Syracuse University earning both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in chemical engineering. Upon graduation, he came to work in the reactor technology section at Savannah River Plant in SC. In 1968 he was assigned as Dupont Representative to an EEC complex-wide planning organization in Oak Ridge, TN. He returns to Savannah River Plant in 1984 to participate in the reactor restart program. In 1987 he was appointed as the Savannah River Plant technical representative to Dept of Energy in Washington, DC. He and his wife relocated to Washington DC for one and a half years before returning to Savannah River Plant where he remained until 1995. He continued to work an additional five years performing consulting work and then fully retired.
Jim’s organization memberships included the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, American Nuclear Society, American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Torch Club of Augusta, Eagle Scout, and a member of St. Thaddeus Church in Aiken.
Jim had a great love of performing arts, especially music. He loved to travel and learn about other people in other countries. He was fascinated with numbers. Above all else, he was a devoted husband and father.
Jim is survived by his spouse, Olivia Macon Morrison, his children Veronica Ferguson (Tom) of Lenoir City, TN, David Morrison (Libby) of Lenoir City, TN, Alan Morrison (Keri) of Cumming, GA, and Jeff Morrison (Mary) of Winter Springs, Fl; his stepchildren Olivia Broody (Jim) of Saluda, NC, and Sarah Shadburne, Charlotte, NC and eight grandchildren, Michael (Antonio), Drew (Blair), Alex, Ryan, Dylan, Allen, Michael & Katie.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his stepsons Allen Veach and Alvis Veach.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at 3:00pm in the sanctuary of St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church with The Reverend Dr. Marshall A. Jolly officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
