Jeanne Hurst Shanks

AIKEN, SC—Jeanne Hurst Shanks, widow of Renford Martin Shanks, entered into rest peacefully Sunday, January 6, 2019 in Greenville, SC at the home of her daughter.

Mrs. Shanks was born May 21, 1945 in Augusta, GA to the late Bryant Hurst and the late Lessie Viola Tidwell Hurst. She was a former resident of Augusta, having made Aiken, SC her home since 2003. She was a graduate of Bolens Business School in Augusta, GA, a member of the Aiken Chapter of Embroiderers guild of America, and a communicant of St. Mary’s Help of Christians Catholic Church where she was very active, especially with their Single Again Ministry.

Mrs. Shanks is survived by two daughters, Amy Thoma, Greenville, SC and Laura Cyckowski, Saugus, MA; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; a brother, David Hurst, Jefferson, GA; a niece, Kimberly Hurst Wilson; a nephew, Dow Hurst (Teresa); and a sister-in-law, Ellen Hurst.

Friends may call Friday, January 11, 2019 from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at George Funeral Home in downtown Aiken.

A funeral liturgy will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Saturday, January 12, 2019 in the George Funeral Chapel with The Very Rev. Father Gregory Wilson as celebrant. Interment will follow in Bethany Cemetery.
