Jewel Lynch ,91, passed away peacefully in her home in the early morning hours of Tuesday, September 24, 2024. She was born in New England but grew up in the South, living in Mississippi and Georgia. She moved with her parents to the CSRA in the 1950’s. Jewel entered the Medical College of Georgia’s Nursing Program and graduated with a BSN in 1967.

She began her nursing career at MCG's School of Nursing as an instructor to senior students in Management and Leadership. In 1972, she received a M.Ed. from the University of Georgia and shortly after graduation accepted a position with the University Hospital in Augusta GA as Director of Nursing Education.

She was later promoted to Director of Hospital Education where she was responsible for education for all hospital personnel. She developed leadership and management workshops for Managers and Department Heads. During this time, she became a nationally- known speaker for health professionals across the country. Ms. Lynch was instrumental in designing and developing the Education Department facility and Classroom Center which served as a model for hospitals around the country. This included not only classrooms, but an integrated Medical Library and a state-of-the-art Media Center with Video Production Capabilities.

Ms. Lynch was involved in the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD) and served as Assistant Vice President, Vice President and Director for Region 9 which consisted of Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, and Puerto Rico she also served on the National Nominating Committee for (ASTD) and won numerous awards during her tenure including Regional and National Leadership Awards.

In 1990 Ms. Lynch went into business for herself as Executive Director of Atlantic Education Architects where she conducted workshops in management for hospitals in Georgia. She also designed Women's Conferences for Clemson University's Professional Development Department which were conducted throughout the country as well as Puerto Rico.

She and her husband lived on a boat for nearly 10 years where they cruised the East Coast and the Bahamas. She loved boating and made many lifetime friends during those years. They moved to Aiken in 2005, a city that she loved and again made many friends. She was a member of St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church and served on many committees with emphasis on the women of the church.

She is survived by her daughters, Kristy Lee Lyon and Lindy Lou Price and son, Rick Halvorsen, DMD; her son-in-law W.C. Lyon, III, son-in-law Brian Price, daughter-in-law Lauren Halvorsen; 8 grandchildren Krystal Lyon, Ashley Lyon, William Lyon, Joseph Lyon, Benjamin Gause, Keller Gause, Lindsey Halvorsen Sneeder, and Haverly Halvorsen Aiken; and 5 great grandchildren, Margot Lyon, Rumi Lyon, Lily Lyon, Emersyn Aiken and Josie Aiken. She was predeceased by her husband/partner, Louis Emmett.

Funeral services for Mrs. Lynch will be conducted on Sunday, November 10, 2024 at 2:00 pm in the Historic George Funeral Home Downtown Chapel with Dr. Chris Masters officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. A private interment will take place at a later time in St. Thaddeus Epsicopal Church Cemetery.
