John Herbert Baker

Funeral services for Mr. John Herbert Baker, Sr will be held Wednesday, August 10, 2005 at 3 PM at George Funeral Homes, Historic Downtown Chapel, 211 Park Ave., SW, Aiken, SC, with Pastor Chris Brown officiating. Interment will follow in Aiken Memorial Gardens, Aiken, SC. The family will receive friends Tuesday, August 9, 2005 from 6 until 8 PM at the funeral home. The family would also like to invite friends to the home of Mike and Jan Baker on Wednesday morning at 11:45 for lunch and fellowship.

Mr. Baker, 77, of North Augusta, SC, died Sunday, afternoon, August 7, 2005 at his home.

Born in Rembert, SC, a son of the late Willie Herbert Baker and Ola Belle Baker Boykin, he had lived in Aiken County, SC most of his life where he retired from E.I. Dupont after thirty-one and one half years of service as an E.I. Mechanic and was a member of Foreman Memorial Baptist Church. His dad died when John was a young boy and his stepfather, Ned Boykin, raised him. Mr. Baker was a great dad and wonderful grandfather.

He is survived by a son, Michael W. Baker, Sr., Jan Y. North Augusta, SC; daughter, Debra Sharpe, Steven Martinez, GA; brother, Jerry Baker, Columbia, SC; sisters, Willene Gates, Mildred Faulkenberry, Betty Caughman, and Sybil Jackson, all of Columbia, SC; grandchildren, Michael W. Baker, Jr., Kayla D. Baker, Greg Baker, David Sharpe and Matthew Sharpe, and a great-grandson, Devon T. Baker. His wife, Colleen R. Baker, a son, John Herbert ?Herby? Baker, Jr. and brothers, Bill, Edward, and Raymond Baker, preceded him in death.
