Leo Paul Covey, 61, passed away on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at Aiken Regional Medical Center, following a period of declining health.
Born on Friday, June 7th, 1963, in the quaint town of Plattsburg, New York. At the time of his passing, he was a resident of Aiken, South Carolina, where he had built a warm and inviting home filled with laughter and memories.
Paul was a graduate of New York High School in Dover Plains. He dedicated many years of his life to serving his country as a proud member of the United States Navy. He served as a cryogenic and oxygen technician, an aircrew survival equipment training engineer, and a safety and quality assurance technician. He had careers that matched his love for social interaction. One such career was serving as a Counselor. He would work as a Mental Hygienist Therapy Assistant and Food Service Worker at Wassaic Development Center, Wassaic, NY, a Mental Health Worker at New Hampshire State Hospital, Concord, NH, Psychiatric Technician at Westbridge Adolescent Center, Phoenix, Arizona, a Residential Counselor at Waverly Children's Home in Portland, Oregon, Residential Counselor at Parry Center for Children, Portland, Oregon, and Residential Counselor at LaPaloma Family Services in Tuscon, Arizona. Paul graduated in 1997 as a certified Bartending Mixologist. He used that skill. at the same time, working at Caswell's Bar & Coffeehouse in Portland, Oregon & Mark's Hawthorne Pub & Inn in Portland. Once Paul moved to Aiken, SC he would continue his bartending skills and becomea well-known and beloved bartender. He had the unique ability to make everyone feel welcome, spinning tales and lending a listening ear to all who visited him.
Paul is survived by three daughters: Aimee Lorraine Lautenschuetz, Ashleigh Meredith Cavanaugh, and Madeline Covey.
Paul was preceded in death by his esteemed parents, Ernest Covey and JoAnn Empoletti, whose memories he cherished dearly.
