Lois Ann Sommers

Lois Ann (Beechwood) Sommers, 84, passed away on Sunday, October 22, 2023. She was an avid horsewoman who owned, trained and raced Thoroughbreds in the Northeast for many years. She was born in New York City, and raised in New Jersey, one of five children of John Jacob and Helen (Keras) Beechwood. Her and her late husband, David Ross Sommers, moved to the Atlanta area in 1996, and after her husband’s passing in 2016, she moved to Aiken, South Carolina.

She is survived by her three sons, John Joseph of Stone Mountain, Georgia; Stephen Michael of Carlton, Georgia; and Christopher of Albuquerque, New Mexico; her two sisters, Mary Alice Dingman of Aiken and Barbara Beechwood of Durham, North Carolina; along with many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and -nephews. She is predeceased by her husband, her parents and brothers John Jacob Beechwood II and William Thomas Beechwood.
