Lou Ann Ainsworth

September 22, 1939 — January 21, 2019

AIKEN, SC-- Lou Ann M. Ainsworth, 79, of Aiken, SC passed away after a lengthy illness Monday, January 21, 2019. She was loving wife to William R. Scott III, dear sister to John, David & Douglas Wernke and loyal daughter to Leonard & Muriel Wernke. She is survived by daughter Kimberly Mooty of Los Angeles, CA and son William Ainsworth of Chicago, IL; also brothers David & Douglas, three grandchildren & two great-grandchildren.

From humble beginnings on the family farm in St. Charles, South Dakota, she progressed from Omaha, NE to New Orleans, LA in various high ranking, financial management positions within the Federal Government. Her final assignment and subsequent retirement at Trinity on Laurens was from the Savannah River Site in Aiken, SC. She was past President of the Desk & Derrick Club in New Orleans, among many others, and earned her Bachelor's degree in Accounting from Tulane University. She was a life-long learner and became an avid artist (painting) in her later years, attending USC-Aiken. She was also a volunteer/parishioner at St. Gerard's and St. Mary's Help of Christians, both in Aiken.

A Requiem Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Thursday, January 31, 2019 at the old historic St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, Park Ave., with The Very Rev. Father Gregory Wilson as celebrant. Final prayers and commendation will follow in Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers & gifts, the family asks that all donations be made to the Mended Hearts, a volunteer organization for people with Heart disease: Mended Hearts, c/o Aiken Regional Medical Center, 302 University Parkway, Aiken, SC 29801.
