Lowell Eugene Tripp

November 2, 1939 — August 9, 2024

Lowell Eugene Tripp, age 84, loving husband of 58 years to Jo Ann McCleskey Tripp and son of the late William Glen Tripp and Alpha Louise Curtis Tripp, passed away in the early morning hours of August 9, 2024, at Barclay House of Aiken.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Christopher Knoble of Bethlehem, PA, and son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Julie Tripp of Huntersville, NC; grandchildren, Sarah Knoble, Addison Tripp, Avery Tripp, and Alaina Tripp; and two younger brothers, James and Dewayne Tripp.

Lowell was born in Vienna, Missouri, on November 2nd, 1939. He attended and received an undergraduate degree from the Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy in Rolla, Missouri, now called the Missouri University of Science and Technology, in Mechanical Engineering (BSME). Upon graduation from Rolla, he was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the Army Reserves and subsequently served two years of active duty, which included a 13-month tour in Korea. During those 2 years, he commanded two platoons and two companies.

He continued coursework at the University of Pittsburgh while working for Westinghouse and then finished a master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (MSME) with a minor in Nuclear Engineering from Catholic University in Washington, DC. Lowell’s career included nuclear engineering work with Westinghouse, NUS Corporation, the Atomic Engineering Commission (AEC), the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission (USNRC), and the US Department of Energy (USDOE). Lowell and his family lived in Pittsburgh, PA, Rockville, MD, Valley Forge, PA, and Aiken, SC (the latter since 1991). Lowell finished his career as a consulting nuclear engineer working part-time after retiring from the Savannah River Site with the USDOE. He volunteered on the Executive Board of the Woodside Plantation Country Club, where he was able to enjoy countless rounds of golf in the latter years of his life.

A memorial service will be held at The Historic George Funeral Home Downtown Chapel in Aiken, SC, on Saturday, August 17th, 2024, at 2:00 pm, officiated by Rev. Butch Blackwell. Prior to the service, visitation will be held from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at The Historic George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 211 Park Ave., SW, Aiken, SC 29801.
