Lt. Col. Gerald W. "Mac" Mccabe Us Army Ret.

April 12, 1936 — December 17, 2021

AIKEN, SC – Lt. Colonel Gerald W. “Mac” McCabe, US Army (Ret.), passed away December 17, 2021, at the age of 85.

Mac was born April 12, 1936, in Painesville, Ohio to the late Charles B. McCabe and the late Elizabeth Murray McCabe. He graduated Cum Laude from Notre Dame University and later took an educational leave from service in The United States Army to complete his MBA from Arizona State University. During his years of service, he completed tours of duty in West Berlin, Germany, where he was stationed for four years; Turkey and South Vietnam, where he volunteered for an 18-month tour. He served in the Army from 1958 until 1978, retiring with the rank of Lt. Colonel.

Mac had a passion for reading and was an avid golfer at Woodside Country Club where he lived. He was a devout Catholic and communicant of St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dr. Mary “Brenda” McCabe; and a brother, Father Mickey McCabe.

A Celebratory Reception will be held Monday, December 20, 2021, from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m. at George Funeral Home.

Interment ceremonies with full military rites afforded to a retired officer, will be conducted on Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at 9:00 am in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.
