Ltc. Bobby Dwight Johnson

AIKEN, SC-Lieutenant Colonel Bobby Dwight Johnson, US Army (Ret.) passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, January 27, 2016 at the age of 73.

Bobby was born July 1, 1942 in Wellington, Alabama to the late Clifford and Lola Green Johnson. He received his MBA from the University of Alabama. Bobby proudly served his country in the United States Army for 22 years, retiring as Lieutenant Colonel. He received the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, the Valorous Unit Award, the Meritorious Unit Commendation, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation. Bobby was a member of the 101st Airborne division and flew in an airplane seven times before he ever landed in one. He served two tours in Vietnam; once with the 101st and once as an adviser. He then worked in the Armed Forces Benefit Association for 21 years.

Bobby was an avid Alabama fan and always had his flag hanging on the porch rail during football season. He enjoyed playing golf until his health prevented him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Patsy Arrington.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Linda W. Johnson; two sons, Todd Johnson, Hoover, AL and Kevin Johnson (Susan), Mt. Pleasant, SC; and three grandchildren, Graham, Rowan, and Oliver Johnson.

The funeral will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, January 29, 2016 at St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church with Father Joseph Whitehurst and Reverend Ron Qualley officiating. Interment will be at 11:00 AM Monday, February 1, 2016 in Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road

Columbia, SC 29229.

Since retirement, Bobby disliked wearing a tie, so please feel free to attend the service tieless.
