Michael Brent Smith, of Aiken, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 14th, 2025, at the age of 74.

Born in Morganton, North Carolina, on September 18th, 1950, Michael lived a life full of compassion, dedicated to the care and welfare of animals.

Michael spent his career as an esteemed animal care giver, a role in which he was able to express his innate kindness and unwavering commitment to creatures of all kinds. His gentle spirit and understanding nature touched the lives of both his human and animal companions.

In Aiken, Michael found a community that cherished him as much as he cherished it. His work not only fulfilled him but also contributed significantly to local efforts in animal welfare.

Michael leaves behind his loving companion, Tony McCraney as well as a host of friends who fill his life with joy and happiness.

Michael will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Those close to him remember him not only for his professional accomplishments but also for his warm demeanor, infectious smile, and boundless empathy.

Funeral arrangements are under the care of The Historic George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, located at 211 Park Ave SW, Aiken, SC 29801. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects and celebrate the life of a man who gave so much to so many.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Michael's memory to a local animal shelter, continuing his legacy of kindness and support for the creatures he devoted his life to.
