Nancy Widener Knowles

Ms. Nancy Widener Knowles, 67, of Aiken died Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at her residence. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening, 6-8pm at GEORGE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTER 211 Park Ave. SW Aiken, Funeral services will take place on Friday, July 27, 2012 at 6pm at Talatha Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 5pm until the time of the service at church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

A daughter of the late Ray Widener and Frances Johnson Widener, she was born and raised in Aiken and was a graduate of Aiken High School. She was a long time member, Sunday School Teacher and choir member at Talatha Baptist Church.

She had worked with Aiken County Sheriff 's Office & Wake Forest, NC Police Dept as a dispatcher. She also retired from Westinghouse, Savannah River Site Internal Investigations.

She was very active in the Lions Club, being a past president of the Aiken Lions Club, Field representative for Leader Dogs for The Blind, SC Lions State Leader Dog Chair Person, SC Lions District 32-B Past District Governor and the SC Independent Living Council Past President

She is survived by her son, Kevin J. Amy Knowles, Aiken; a sister, Lois Cushman, Aiken; two nieces, Connie Kenny Roe Aiken and Frances Russell, Aiken.
