Paul Thomas Deason

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday August 16, 2003 at 9:00am at St. Mary Help of Christians Church for Paul Thomas Deason, Sr. Visitation will be Friday 6-8pm at George Funeral Homes Historic Downtown Chapel 211 Park Ave SW Aiken.

Mr. Deason, 72, of Aiken, died Tuesday August 12, 2003 at Aiken Regional Medical Centers. Born in Greenbrier, TN, he was the son of the late Dortha Drane and Thursa Harper Deason. He was a professional baseball player and was a member of the Chicago Cubs before being drafted into the Army during the Korean War. After the war, he attended Middle Tennessee State College and then taught High School math in TN and NC . He then worked as a Mathematics Professor and Dean of Students at University of NC, Asheville before retiring to Aiken in 1994. He was a communicant at St. Mary Help of Christians Church and was an avid Atlanta Braves fan.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years Connie Deckbar Deason, two sons; Paul Thomas, Jr., Aiken and Ed Deason, Charlotte, NC, two daughters; Pam Deason, Mt. Pleasant, SC and Nancy Deason, Oakland, CA, a brother; Dewey Deason, Lebanon, TN and a sister; Carolyn Duvall, McMinville, TN. Mr. Deason is also survived by six grandchildren.
