Paul Heniford Lewis

Funeral arrangements for Mr. Paul Heniford Lewis, 56, of Aiken, who died Monday, January 03, 2011 will be private. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 7, 2011 from 3-5pm at GEORGE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTER, 211 Park Ave, Aiken. Memorial donations may be directed to Solaris Hospice, 156 University Parkway, Suite 101, Aiken, SC 29801.

A son of the late Myron Lewis and Catherine Heniford Lewis, he was born in Washington, DC and raised in Horry County, SC. Paul earned a BA in English, a Masters of Library Science, and a Masters of Public Administration at the University of South Carolina in Columbia before moving to Aiken in 1987. Paul had been the government documents librarian at USC-Aiken since 1987, retiring due to his health in July, 2010. He was a member of the SC Library Association and was active in The McGrath SeniorNet Learning Center at USC-Aiken.

Paul died after a long battle with cancer. He inspired those who knew him with his courage and grace throughout that long struggle. Paul was a loving husband and father and will be terribly missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife; Catherine McCreesh Lewis, Aiken, a son; Riley Lewis, Aiken, a daughter; Claire Lewis, Aiken and two brothers; Alan Lewis, Columbia, SC and Kevin Lewis, Aiken, SC.
