Peter James Barr

Mr. Peter James Barr, Sr., 72, beloved husband of Betty Barr, died Saturday, November 01, 2003 at his residence. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, November 4, 2003 at 2pm at St. Mary?s Help of Christian Catholic Church with Father Gade Shaw Reddy celebrant. Visitation will be held 12PM to 1:30 at the Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be his sons and two oldest grandsons, James Jr. and Christopher.

Mr. Barr was the son of the late Robert W. and Mary Francis Barr also being predeceased by brothers, John R. Barr, Tommy Barr, and sister, Helen Barr. He was born in the Panama Canal Zone and moved to Aiken in 1980 after 28 years of service as Assistant Chief of the Panama Canal Fire Division. He served his country during the Korean Conflict in the US Navy. The Governor of the Panama Canal Zone and the Panamanian Government recognized him on numerous occasions for his Heroism. He was also an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fly-fishing. Mr. Barr was a compassionate and thoughtful Husband, Father, and Grandfather.

Survivors include his wife and four sons, Robert E. Barr, Victoria, TX, James A. Barr, Aiken, Peter J. Barr, Jr., Greer, SC, Sean A. Barr, Aiken, brother, Richard F. Barr, sister, Sr. Barbara F. Barr, and grandchildren, James. A. Jr., Kristina, Christopher, Travis, Jonathan, Preston and Christian.
