Reverend Douglas Van Canady

Funeral services for Reverend Douglas Van Canady will be held Saturday, January 3, 2004 at 11 AM at Cedar Creek Church, Aiken, SC, with Pastor Richard Swift and Pastor David Holdman officiating. Interment will follow in Southlawn Cemetery, Aiken, SC. Pallbearers for the service will be Drew Chavous, Bryson Strawhorn, David Peterson, Phil Waters, Glen DeHart, Stephen Schultz, Tim Mettlen, and Al Beckum. The family will receive friends Friday, January 2, 2004 from 6 until 8 PM at George Funeral Homes, Historic Downtown Chapel, 211 Park Ave., SW, Aiken, SC.

Doug, 38, of Athens, GA, formerly of Aiken, SC, died Tuesday, December 30, 2003.

Born in Aiken, SC, a son of Matt T. and Jan Mc Taggart Canady, he had been a resident of Aiken, SC prior to relocating to the Athens, GA area seven years ago. Doug was a kind and caring person, who enjoyed helping people and loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, his family, and his beloved Marine Corps, which he served in proudly for four years. Doug was an ordained minister through the United Christian Church and Ministerial Association and was also a licensed addiction counselor. He attended the University of South Carolina and Victory Bible College.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his brother, Donnie L. and his wife, Kelly, brother, Brent M. and wife, Traci Canady, nephew, Matthew and nieces, Casey, Savannah, and Caroline Canady, all of Aiken, SC; and his best friend, Jill Patton, Athens, GA. He is also survived by his grandparents, Laverne and Vera Kinney and was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, L.H. and Luceal McTaggart and paternal grandfather, O.T. Canady.
