Richard Percy Marvel, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 17, 2025, just shy of his 89th birthday.

A resident of Aiken, South Carolina, Richard was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on March 22, 1936, to the late Percy and Agnes Marvel.

Richard was a proud alumnus of Haverford High School, graduating with the class of 1954, before furthering his studies at Villanova University where he earned his bachelor's degree in 1958. Following his academic pursuits, Richard served with distinction for five years in the United States Marine Corps, retiring at the rank of Captain.

In Scituate, Massachusetts, Richard discovered his passion for running, achieving the remarkable feat of completing the Boston Marathon on April 16, 1984.

In 2007, Richard and his beloved wife of 58 years, Mary Jacqueline Marvel, relocated to the Woodside Plantation Community in Aiken, South Carolina. Here, Richard immersed himself in the vibrant community and offered his warmth and generosity by volunteering at local nursing facilities with his cherished therapy dog, Lulu. He will be remembered fondly as a true gentleman with a sharp wit and a steadfast dedication to his family.

Richard leaves behind a loving family: his devoted wife Mary Jacqueline Marvel; their three daughters, Lori Marvel, Leslie Ferriter, and Lisa Pregent; and his three adored grandchildren, Kate, Harper, and Henry.

Private services for the immediate family will take place at a later date.
