Ruth O. Barclay

AIKEN, SC – Mrs. Ruth O. Barclay, age 79, entered into rest on April 26, 2021.

Ruth was born in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania on May 17, 1941, to the late William F. and Marion R. Ohnezeit. She graduated from Robert Morris College and worked as a secretary at Westinghouse in Beaver, PA, and later at Stork Kit in Middleburg Heights, OH. She was active in the Houndslake Garden Club, the Peninsula Homeowners Association, and supported the Millbrook Baptist Church and many other Christian charities. She had a lifelong love of horses and other animals. She and Brent traveled extensively over the years, visiting 39 different countries. Her favorite journey took her to Israel.

Ruth was preceded in death by her son, Sean Christian Barclay, her father, William Ohnezeit Jr., her sister, Donna Jean Young, her mother, Marion Ohnezeit, and her brother, William Ohnezeit III.

Ruth was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Brent Barclay, Aiken, SC; three children, Brette Barron and husband Dan, Bakersville, NC, Brent Barclay Jr. and wife Holly, Cranberry Township, PA, and Kerri Zlokas, Sanford, FL; five grandchildren, Robert Day and wife Jaymee, Spruce Pine, NC, Madeline Day, Spruce Pine, NC, Robert Zlokas, Sanford, FL, Joseph Zlokas, Sanford, FL, and Claire Barclay, Cranberry Township, PA; aunt to many.

Ruth was a devout Christian, and faith and family meant everything to her. She always put others’ needs above her own. She was deeply loved by her family and friends, and will be greatly missed.

Immediate family had a private viewing. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Interment will be at the Beaver Cemetery, Beaver, PA.

The family respectfully requests that no flowers be sent and, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Down Syndrome Association of Pittsburgh.
