Shirley Greider Wetzel

A Memorial Mass for Mrs. Shirley Greider Wetzel will be celebrated on Friday, January 28, 2011 at 10am at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Center, PO Box 358, Gloverville, SC, 29828 or Trinity Hospice, 690 Medical Park Dr, Aiken, SC, 29801.

Mrs. Wetzel, 83, of Aiken, died Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at her residence surrounded by her family.

Born in Decatur, IL, she was the daughter of the late Robert James Greider and Grace Mildred Rhea Greider. Shirley moved to Aiken in 1999 from Chicago. She was very active in charitable organizations in the Chicago area, having been president of the Deerpath Chapter of the Chicago Infant Welfare Center; Shirley also served on the Women's Board of the Lighthouse for the Blind of Chicago and the Executive Board of the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago.

She is survived by her husband, James M. Wetzel, sons, Michael DeborahWetzel, Aiken; Peter Tracy Wetzel, daughter, Jane Kirk Howard, both of Chicago; sister, Mary O'Keefe, Naples, FL; grandchildren, Meghan Wetzel, Erin McCarthy and Matthew McCarthy.
