Sophie Vanderbeck

AIKEN, SC- Sophie Vanderbeck, age 102, entered into rest peacefully at her residence on Thursday, September 21, 2017, after living a nice and fulfilling life.

Mrs. Vanderbeck was born January 17, 1915 in Bayonne, NJ to the late John and Stella Kuzian Porawski. She lived in Aiken, SC for the past 10 and a half years, having lived in Bayonne, NJ for 92 years. She was a long-time communicant of Pope John Paul II Roman Catholic Church in Bayonne, NJ and attended St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church in Aiken, SC.

In addition to her parents, Sophie was preceded in death by a sister, Jean Porawski, brothers, Henry & Thaddeus Porawski.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Arlene & Jim Hunter, Aiken, SC; sister-in-law, Helen Porawski & numerous nieces, nephews & extended family.

Friends may call on Sunday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at George Funeral Home.

A Requiem Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 on AM Monday, September 25, 2017 at the old historic St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, Park Ave., with Father Michel Bineen Mukad as celebrant. Final prayers and commendation will be Friday in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, NJ.
