Terry Alicia Houghton, a beloved mother, grandmother, and accomplished horse trainer, peacefully passed away on Sunday, May 4th, 2025, at the age of 68. Terry was born on Sunday, September 30th, 1956, in the vibrant city of Pasadena, California. Her life journey later led her to the welcoming community of Aiken, SC, where she resided.

Terry is survived by her loving daughter, Kimberly Melia, and son-in-law, Ryan Melton, of Windsor; her devoted son, Bryan Bishop., alongside daughter-in-law, Meagan Bishop, of Rock Hill; and her cherished daughter, Alicia Melia, of Aiken. Her legacy continues through her six adored grandchildren: Alexander Robertson, Erika Robertson, Elayna Melton, Isabella Melton, Calli Bishop, and Colten Bishop. Terry was also looking forward with great anticipation to the arrival of her first great-grandson.

Preceding her in death were her parents, James Frederick Houghton and Eleanor Bloom Houghton, whose memories she cherished deeply.

Terry's passion for horses defined much of her life's work. She was an esteemed horse trainer, celebrated for her skill and dedication. Among her many achievements, she worked with Darley Stables and the horse Sovereignty that recently grabbed headlines by winning the Kentucky Derby this past Saturday. Her contributions to the equine community have left an indelible mark, inspiring many with her unwavering commitment to excellence.

Beyond her equestrian pursuits, Terry found joy in the outdoors. She loved camping, fishing, and kayaking—endeavors that allowed her to connect with nature and share these special moments with her family and friends.

In honor of her love for animals, donations in Terry's memory can be made to the Albrecht Center for Animal Welfare, located at 199 Willow Run Drive, Aiken, SC 29801.
