AIKEN, SC - Thursa Ann Sotak, age 74, entered into eternal rest Monday, April 24, 2017.

Mrs. Sotak was born February 14, 1943 in New York, New York to the late Walter and Thursa Frances Horbatuk. She married Arthur P. Sotak on May 22, 1971 in Sacred Heart Church, Yonkers, New York. She attended Westchester Community College. Her working career was spent as an Administrative Assistant in the Publishing and Pharmaceutical Industries.

Community service was very important to her. She dedicated her time to both church and school activities. Mrs. Sotak was appointed by the Vatican as a member of the Equestrian Oder of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem for Services to the Catholic Church. She served as a Lector and Eucharistic Minister at Our Lady of Peace Church, New Brunswick, NJ and St. Matthias Church, Somerset, NJ for 25 years and as a CCD Teacher for second, fourth, and eighth grades at St. Matthias Church for 10 years. Additionally, she was the First Communion and Confirmation Coordinator for St. Matthias Church for 5 years. Ms. Sotak served as President of Our Lady of Peace Columbiettes for 3 years, as Supreme Director of the Supreme Council Columbiettes for 5 years, and Supreme Officer of the Supreme Council Columbiettes for 8 years. Locally she was active in the Aiken Newcomers, serving as treasurer for a number of years.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Sotak was preceded in death by a brother, Denis Horbatuk.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Arthur P. Sotak; a daughter, Thursa E. Sotak (Michael Weil), Wellington, FL; a son, Stephen A. Sotak, Brookhaven, GA; a grandson, Ian Weil; a sister, Renee Drexel; and a brother, Walter Horbatuk.

The family will receive friends on Friday, April 28, 2017 from 11:00 AM until 12:30 PM at George Funeral Home. A Requiem Mass will be celebrated Friday at 1:00 PM at the Old Historic St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, Park Ave., with the Very Rev. Father Gregory Wilson as celebrant. Final prayers and commendation will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
