Mr. Vernon Fulmer, 75, of Aiken, died Friday, April 23, 2004 at Mattie C. Hall Health Care Center. Funeral services took place in Jacksonville, FL. Local arrangements were by George Funeral Homes Historic Downtown Chapel 211 Park Ave. SW Aiken.
He was best known as the ''Waving Man'' who sat out in front of his home on Banks Mill Rd. each day, smiling and waving at all the cars as they went by. He was a regular fixture to all who used the road. After his health precluded him from his daily routine, it as often asked, ''What happened to the waving man?''
A son of the late Sammie & Hattie Brown Fulmer, he was a lifelong resident of Aiken.He was the former owner of Fulmer's Top Shop and was a 32 degree Mason. He is survived by two daughters, Sandra Givens, Aiken and Diane Whipple, Arlington, TX, a brother; Ray Fulmer, Aiken, a sister; Edna Bass, Aiken, 3 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
