Virginia M. Nelson

AIKEN, SC- Virginia M. "Ginny" Nelson, age 76, passed away Monday, September 28, 2015.

Ginny was born December 29, 1938 in Chicago, IL to the late Melvin and Cecilia Liljegren Anderson. Ginny was the Executive Secretary to the president of Universal Oil Products for many years until she left to become a full time mother. She later became one of the few women to take short hand and received her paralegal degree from Harper College. She lived in Palatine, IL where she worked for various law agencies prior to making Aiken, SC her home ten years ago. Ginny loved to garden, especially her roses, and was a member of Woodside Plantation County Club and the Women of Woodside in Aiken, SC.

In addition to her parents, Ginny was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Richard P. Nelson.

She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Robert A. Nelson; a son and daughter-in-law, David A. and Robin Nelson, Hoffman Estate, IL; two grandchildren, Joshua and Abby Nelson; and a brother and his wife, Alan and Mary Jo Anderson, Barrington, IL.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, October 2, 2015 at St. John's United Methodist Church in Aiken, SC. The Reverend Dr. Timothy McClendon will officiate. Entombment will be in the church columbarium following the service. The family will receive friends after the services in the Ward Fellowship Hall at the church.
