Woodford Vernon Roe

AIKEN, SC – Woodford Vernon Roe, age 85, entered into eternal rest at his residence on Monday, March 26, 2018.

Woody was born May 14, 1932 in Woodford County, Kentucky to the late Douglas and Florida Roe. He proudly served his country in the US Air Force and retired as an operations manager in the banking industry. After retirement, he enjoyed being a security officer at Ocean Lakes in Myrtle Beach, SC. He had made Aiken, SC his home since 1988, having previously lived in Orangeburg, SC. Mr. Roe was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in New Ellenton, SC and enjoyed traveling extensively across North America in his motorhome. Additionally, he enjoyed cruises and had a love for people, especially his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Roe was preceded in death by two sisters, Alice Bailey and Bonnie McKinney; and a brother, Marvin Roe.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 22 years, Nettie Jean LeGrand; three children, Cliffton Lee Roe (Roxanne), Harrison Twp., Michigan, Thomas Michael Roe, Cope, SC, and Janet Ann Runge, Tega Cay, SC; five stepchildren, Ronald LeGrand (Tammy), Donald LeGrand (Kate), Lynda Page, Renee Mack (Paul), and Marie Rouse (Luonne); three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; ten step-grandchildren; and nineteen step-great grandchildren; a sister, Gracie Busky (Jack); a brother, James Roe (Oleata); and a brother-in-law, Jim Bailey.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 29, 2018 at 2:00 PM at George Funeral Home in downtown Aiken, followed by a funeral service in the George Funeral Chapel at 3:00 PM with the Rev. Robert Reeves officiating. Interment will follow in St. Paul United Methodist Church Cemetery.
