Woodrow Gilmer

AIKEN, SC- Woodrow Gilmer, 100, died peacefully at home on Monday, October 26, 2015.

He was born September 15, 1915 in Centerville, Tennessee and was the son of John and Ida Gilmer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 75 years, Sue Gilmer.

He is survived by his daughters, Patricia Adams, Anderson, SC, Hydee Decker, Union, SC, and Sandra Topp, Driggs, ID. He is also survived by six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and his beloved dog, Skipper.

Woody had lived in Aiken since 1951 and was employed for 28 years as a Superintendent in DuPont Construction at the Savannah River Site.

He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Aiken where he was a founding member and a member of Aiken's Masonic Lodge where he was a Mason for 65 years.

Woody was a kind and gentle spirit who loved his family, his neighbors, his church, and his community. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

The family would like to thank the Regency Hospice team for the care of our father. A special thanks to Dad's personal caregivers for their love and compassion.

The visitation will be on Thursday, October 29, 2015 at 10:00 AM at George Funeral Home in Aiken, SC with the funeral service following at 11:00 AM. The Reverend Lee Phillips will officiate. Private family burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with Masonic Rites.
